DRV10974: Unintended output

$

0

Part Number: DRV10974

In DRV10974 mounted on the PCB I designed, even if the PWM pin is plulled up or down and no PWM signal, a regular voltage is output to the U,V,W pin. Therefore, current flows to the motor at this timing. When the motor is removed, no current flows, but the U,V,W pin continues to output voltage.

Since I also own an evaluation board, I confirmed under the same conditions. As expected, the U,V,W pin remains at GND level and no current flows into the motor. When the motor is connected and other signals such as PWM are input, the expected operation can be confirmed.

Should I suspect a motor driver failure?

I will attach the target schematic diagram and the output waveform of each U,V,W pin.

The introduction of the motor is as follows.
Type : Sensorless 3 phase BLDC w/ neutral point
  Nominal voltage : 6V
  Maximum continuous current : 0.2A
  Resistance between 3 terminals : 18.1 ohm

Thank you.

DRV8844: How to prevent Overcurrent Protection being tripped due to inrush current

$

Part Number: DRV8844

I am working on a 36V application and will work on 48V as well. I am driving a PAR36 LED Flood light for Forklift equipment. The LED Flood light has steady state current of 0.5A @ 36V but inrush can be as high as 10A in microseconds. The DRV8844 is being driven by MCU to turn on an output. Instantly turning on  one output, I can see the LED blinks so fast. I am 100% it shuts down due to OCP.

I have 33uF connected on the DRV8844 VBat/GND and due to space constraints, It can not be more than that. I have tried giving a PWM signal on the input with gradual increase of duty cycle from 0-100% between 1-10 seconds, thinking a soft start on the LED will reduce the inrush but the OCP is still tripping.

Any suggestion on how to solve this issue?

Thanks.

Hi all,

I would like to know the SCLK absent period during nSCS=L. Do you have any specification for this? I attached a picture for explaining what I would like to know for reference. In the datasheet, it says "SCLK is absent even though nSCS is low." I would like to know how long.

Hello,

I saw in the datasheet of the DRV10983-Q1 a register to get the current of the DRV10983-Q1 (8.5.3.5 MotorCurrent Register (address = 0x04) ) is this value the phase current or the sum of all 3 phase current?

thanks!

DRV10983EVM: Rotation speed value on GUI shows too high

Part Number: DRV10983EVM

Hello experts,

I have question about DER10983EVM.

My customer tries to drive the motor with DRV10983EVM.

Motor specs

 ・DC12V

・12 poles, 3phases, brush less, sensor less

 ・No load rotation speed 10800rpm

 ・No lead current 250mA

 ・Kt(Torque constant) 0.0062Nm/A

 ・Terminal Resistance 1.82Ohm (Common-each coil)

 ・Inductance 1.0mH

・Setting value

 ・R(phase-CT) 1.85Ohm

 ・BEMF Constant (Kt) 11mV/Hz

The motor looks rotate in normal, but rotation speed on GUI shows over 100k rpm.

Also, the customer set I2C speed = 1, the motor looks rotate in normal, and motor drive current is about 0.06A.

But motor has much thermal with increasing speed value on GUI.

Could you tell me advise to solve this problem?

What should I check first?

Thanks and best regards,

Ryo Akashi

Part Number: DRV8848

Hi
I finished the download from GUI, but I have a problem during installation.

Following the SLLU210B - Installation Procedure to the below step.

I cannot download - GUI Composer V2 runtime from web.

I searched the E2E community , found a similar question :  https://e2e.ti.com/support/tools/ccs/f/81/t/604894

I cannot get the file with the same instruction.

Could you help to provided the direct download link of GUI Composer v2 Runtime ?
Or provide any easy way to install the GUI to control the EVM.

Thanks

LM48580: Input capacitors needed when using a HPF for the audio inputs?

Part Number: LM48580

Hi all,

I'm currently using the LM48580 to drive a piezo speaker and this is working quite well. However, I'd like to implement a differential high pass filter before the amplifier and was wondering if in this case the 0.47uF input capacitors Cin that are shown in the datasheet of the LM48580 can be omitted since the HPF will sufficiently block any DC from the inputs?

Here is the filter that I have in mind:

Thank you in advance for your help,

DRV10987: Maximum attainable speed

$

Part Number: DRV10987

Hi,

Can you clarify concisely what the max speed achievable with this driver is, assuming no motor limitations, correct speed constants etc...

I have a 6 pole-pair BLDC motor with a kV of 1200rpm/volt. With an off the shelf 20$ drive and 20V source, I am able to spin it at 20krpm.

The DRV10987 datasheet says on page 65, table 37 "Electrical frequency MAX 1000Hz". This would imply 1000/6*60 = 10krpm. This seems... odd. I feel like I am misunderstanding Could you clarify?

Thanks

DRV8306EVM: maximum PWM frequency and minimum and maximum duty cycle

Part Number: DRV8306EVM

Hi

I design a circuit like DRV8306EVM board for drive a sensored  BLDC motor with nominal voltage 24V and nominal current about 4A. My motors datasheet is available at:: https://datasheets.globalspec.com/ds/5488/MaxonPrecisionMotors/F55869DF-CFFD-4AC7-9822-80DC4BEA9557

so the circuit have DRV8306 as Brushless DC Motor Controller and gate Mosfet drivers and CSD88584Q5DC as Power Mosfets.

I want to know

1- What is the maximum frequency acceptable for control the speed of motor (based on DRV8306EVM for Vm= 24V)?  according to CSD88584Q5DC  datasheet it have to be in range of 5 to 50 kHZ. and according to Qgd of the CSD88584Q5DC acceptable duty cycle have to be in range of 1 to 99%. is it true?

2- Could you suggest me another half bridge for my application (for example CSD88599Q5DC) for increase duty cycle range? or is it possible increase PWM frequency?

3- I need a half bridge MOSFET with low Qg (for high PWM frequency and low duty cycle) Rds is not so important for my application. could you suggest me a half bridge MOSFET?

Part Number: DRV8848

Hello Sir,
Finally, I can install the GUI successfully.

During the installation, I found my screen is different with sllu210b.pdf instruction.
In "sllu210b.pdf - figure11" show below:

In my installation, there is not the "Lauch DRV8848" as below. But is is not big deal, just let you know.

After installation, I executed the GUI program, it should the message below:

I try to link the file, by using  "Browse..." to the below file:
C:\Users\ero\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v4\win32\node-webkit\nw.exe

Then the program screen will freeze as below:

My computer system is Win10, I tried another computer with Win7 and got the same result.
I also try to install "GUI_Composer-6.2.0.1-Setup" in my computer,   it doesn't help.
No mater I install it or not, the program will freeze.

Could you please help for that? What did I miss?

Part Number: DRV8847

Hi Experts,

Recently our customer is debugging on our DRV8847S on their board, and captured some strange I2C SDA line waveform as below, where you will see a bar when voltage goes from high to low. Also we checked some application notes for this device, and saw one waveform looks like similar to customer's behavior, but not sure(http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slvae40/slvae40.pdf). Do you have any thoughts why there is a bar in here?

1. Strange I2C SDA line waveform captured on customer's board:

2. Looks like there is a similar behavior captured in this application note, but not sure:

Thanks a lot!

DRV8323: DRV8323 state during loss of VM or when ENABLE pin low

$

Part Number: DRV8323

When the DRV8323 ENABLE pin is brought high, for the first time, what state is it in (brake, registers and FETs)?

What state is the DRV8323 left in when the ENABLE pin looses power (brake, registers and FETs)?

When the DRV8323 ENABLE pin is brought high, after loosing power, what state is it in (brake, registers and FETs)?

Are the above states dependent on whether VM is at system voltage?

Should the ENABLE pin circuitry be pulled low with a pull-down resistor?

What happens to the register values when the ENABLE pin looses power?

The linked thread has the schematic layout.

DRV10975: DRV10975Z - zener diode on VREG pin

$

Part Number: DRV10975

The datasheet specifies that when using the DRV10975Z VREG in linear mode, a zener diode must be included.

Some parameters for this diode are given, including the following --> "Peak Power > 2.5W"

The use of the word "peak" implies a surge power rating, not a DC power rating, but I'm not sure... Many small zeners are rated for approx 300mW DC power, but have a surge rating of >4W...

Specifically, would this diode https://assets.nexperia.com/documents/data-sheet/PDZ-GW_SER.pdf (either 3.9V or 4.3V) work?  Or do I need a bigger part?

DRV8340-Q1: Use with DC Brush Motor

DRV8702-Q1: Full bridge solenoid drive

$

Part Number: DRV8702-Q1

I'm looking to use the DRV8702-Q1 as a 1-2A max continuous full bridge solenoid driver. To reduce the 12V solenoid open and close times the supply voltage will be increased to 18-24V while pulse width modulating the full bridge in forward and reverse modes (instead of recirculate mode). My concern is using the DRV8702 in reverse drive mode because this will put a negative voltage across, and a negative current through, the current sense resistor. Will the internal CSA output stay at 0V when Vsp-sn < 0V? Will the CSA output need any extra settling time after Vsp-sn goes back above 0V? The current sense resistor will be 0.1 ohm and the maximum current will be about 2A.

Will the fault output behave normally during and after the negative voltage duration?
