DRV8711EVM not running stepper motor

$

GUI loads and seems to run but motor doesn't run. I followed the steps in the DRV8711EVM users manual but have only 20.4VDC connected. The STATUS LED blinks but the FAULTn LED does not light up. I checked and I do have 20.4V at J1.

Connecting and clicking the various WRITE buttons seem to behave as expected.

The motor appears to be powered up as the shaft is locked.

Is 20.4V sufficient?

Any help please.

Thanks, John

DRV8837 not driving big motor: OCP problem?

I'm using DRV8837 to drive a RC toy motor. There are two motors, very similar, from the same Chinese supplier, recommended at 3.7V. The only difference is the size:

- the right one is 7mm diameter.
- the left one is 8.5mm diameter.

http://imgur.com/rkRnRZH

When I use the the small one (7mm) with my design or the DRV8837evm, there is no problem as shown here:
http://tinypic.com/r/2816c91/8

When I use the big one (8.5mm) with my design or the DRV8837evm, it's not working as shown here:
http://tinypic.com/r/mijp94/8

On the scope, I see a spike every 1ms which according to the datasheet seems linked to OCP.

If I use the big one (8.5mm) with my design or the DRV8837evm, AND IF I GO UP VERY SLOWLY BETWEEN 10% AND 20%, it's working as shown here:
http://tinypic.com/r/jhq0ds/8

The small motor consumes around 500mA at 3.7V, the big one probably goes around 1 to 1.5A at 3.7V nothing near the over current protection level.

Is there any explanation? Could I add something to fix the problem? DRV8837 provides the advantage to work at 1.8V which is not the case of 8835 or 8836 so we are reluctant to switch to a dual motor.

DRV8301 LS12 kit external control

Hi,

I am using DRV8301 LS12 EVM kit.  I want to know the use of "External Control" option available in the board.

Whether the control card mounted on the EVM can be used to control another driver circuit (instead of the one already comes with kit) and motor via "external control"  without modifying much in the DRV8301 LS12.

My requirement is  to connect PWM generated by  the control card mounted on the EVM to my DSPACE environment for evaluation purpose and DSPACE will give me the AC current feedback and resolver analog output , which i want to connect to the EVM.

Thanks & Regards,

Rathinavel

I checked the datasheet but couldn't find any hint whether your settings to control registers 1&2 will be kept after power off.

Or the registers will be reset to default value when DRV8301 is powered up?

DRV8825 Direction issues

Hello to everyone, I bought some drv8825 chips in order to build a 3D printer, after I designed the carrier boards, I installed four of the chips, then when I tried to test the drivers I came across a very unusual problem, three of the drivers when in use they didn't keep the same direction, I measured the voltage at the direction pin and during test there was a constant voltage of 4.97 volts, I measured the voltage at the trimming pot and there was a constant 0.4 volts, i cannot explain myself why is this behavior, I also changed the stepper motors (the stepper motors are recovered from diferrent printers) but the problem persists. What is strange is that the fourth board works perfect, it doesn't have these symptoms.

Could please someone help me !

This is how the boards look like

DRV8301 ADC requirement

Hi,

Referring page 5/7 of the DRV8301 - HC - C2 - kit schematics.  The current sense feedback IA-FB, IB-FB, IC-FB is being captured by 2 ADC's i.e., IA-FB connected to A1 & B3, IB-FB connected to B1 & B5 while IC-FB connected to A3 & A5.

Could I know why the data is being captured by 2 ADC's.  However the motor control code f2803xileg_vdc_PM.h takes the data from A1 & B1 ADC's only i.e., B3, B5, A3 & A5 is never used in the code.

Pl clarify.

DRV8432 Shunt Resistor

We want to use drv8432 :

1)       We want to support Stepper Motors from 0.8 Amp to 4 Amp, what is “the optimum shunt resistor value”  that we can use in our board

2)      In schematic REV G the DEV boards works with DRV8412 at a current maximum of 3 Amp per phase and use a shunt resistor of 0.01 R50-R51-R52-R53, If a stepper motor of  1 amp we noticed the current control is not accurate .

How we can avoid same problem in our design ,?

Do We need to  use ADJ GAIN  OP instead ? ,

Is any comments on how we can design  current measurement circuit ?

3) In the Schematic REV G  , R50 R51 R52 R53  are  o.o1 Ohms  can I now the track with  , because each  point of the resistor one goes to +OP and the another –OP and this line is GND from the MOSFET A B  C D

Note: I did ask Tech support but today they informed to me after a week that I have to post here my questions.

Is any phone I can call in order to have the answer

DRV8432 application questions

My customer would like to clarify a few things about the DRV8432, which are not obvious from the datasheet. I would appreciate your help with these, please:

  1. Assume the DRV8432 is configured as for parallel full bridge configuration (1 PFB), by mode selection: M3=0, M2=1, and M1=0. According to the datasheet, the load current will be limited cycle by cycle (CBC).  In this mode, does the over-current latch (OCL) shut down still function as well?

    - I understand this should be the case, and that the OCL threshold is about 6A higher than the programmed CBC threshold. Is that right?

  2. In Table 2 (Programming-Resistor Values and OC Threshold), are these the current thresholds for CBC limiting or OCL shut-down?

    - I presume CBC?

  3. How temperature dependent are these current thresholds?

  4. The datasheet shows a resistor from OC_ADJ to ground to set the OC threshold. Is there any way to adjust the OC threshold other than changing this resistor value? In our application it is desirable for a systems integrator to be able adjust this threshold after manufacture. Would it be possible to somehow use an external voltage (controlled by a microprocessor) to adjust the OC threshold?

  5. In PFB mode, will the load current be evenly distributed to each bridge? If the load current is to be limited to 12A, for instance, does this mean the OC threshold should be set as for 6A per bridge (following Table 2)?

  6. The rise time and fall times of the output stage are very fast. Is there any way to slow these down to control radiated emissions? Perhaps a capacitor to ground on the output stage?

  7. In PFB mode, are the output inductors essential? Could PCB tracks of around 6cm be utilised as inductors instead?

Thank you for your assistance.

DRV8832 output status while transitioning forward and reverse

Hi,

I have a question about output status while transitioning forward and reverse on DRV8832.

On my product specification, DRV8832 will be used forward and reverse repeadedly. (forward --> reverse --> forward -->reverse)

While transitioning from forward to reverse (or reverse to forward), I guess both OUT1 and OUT2 NEVER go to following status for a moment.  Is that correct?

(1) OUT1, OUT2 =  L, L

(2) OUT1, OUT2 =  H, H

(3) OUT1, OUT2 =  Z, Z

Hi,

I would like to know a simple way to calculate the power dissipation by the driver working at 20 Khz, 48V and with

6 BUK9Y7R8-80E mosfets, that have:

QG(tot)total gate charge - 9.8 - nC

QGSgate-source charge - 1.6 - nC

QGDgate-drain charge - 3.3 - nC

Thanks

DRV8834 Current Adjustment

$

I purchased an DRV8834 breakout board to drive this stepper motor:

http://www.pololu.com/product/1200

The motor requires 1.2 A per phase at 4V and I'll be powering the driver with 5V from the Arduino board.  So, my question is, do I need to make any current adjustment using the integrated potentiometer before I connect and power the motor with the driver?

TIA!

Hi,

I'm trying to drive the DRV8313 evm with an external microcontrolleur (ezdsp F2812) and there is some Zero-ohm-Jumpers that should be removed before(R25,R26,R27,R29 and R30 to R34), but when i tried to remove this jumpers i accidentally removed another resistor ( R1 ) which is not supposed to be removed

i want to know is this could have any consequences on the working of the board

DRV8301 and super capacitors

Hello,

i am member of a team and we are working on a regenerative braking project using super capacitors. We use the drv8301 kit to control our BLDC motor. Our tests were successfully completed by using LiPo batteries, but when we tried to power the kit with super capacitors, we figured out that the motor could not raises over 400 revs. The capacitors were charged on 12-13 Volts and we thought that it was the problem, because in another post Mr. Chris Clearman said that  "Are you using 14.8V for the bus?  I know the DRV8301 kit doesn't like a bus voltage that low unless you supply the 5V separately to J2" . But we tried to power the kit with one LiPo battery charged on same Volts and everything was ok. So what is the problem of our system? Will the problem get solved if we supply 5V separately to J2?

Thank you in advance,

John

DRV8301 kit graphs

Hello,

I am using the sample project that is provided with the hercules motorware package and I have a few questions:

1. When viewing the graphs that come with the project what are they measuring and what are the base units. By base units I mean that the data is normalized and what is the value the data is being normalized to?

2. How can I graph voltage, speed, and current? And once I graph this data, how can I save the data to a text file?

Thanks,

Nate

Question about DRV8813 behavior

Hi,

I got some question about DRV8813 behavior,

1. My customer tested two different stepping motor with DRV8813 as following settings,

   VM=12V , Decay=Low(slow) Vref=0.32V , RISENSE=0.47Ω (so, Ichop=0.32/(5*0.47)=0.136A)

As a result, on of them seemed to work correctly (Ichop=0.134A)

but the Ichop of the another motor exceeded the setting value (Ichop=0.257A)

and when the Decay set to High(fast), both of them seemed to work correctly (Ichop was about 0.12A)

What is the possible cause of this behavior?

 2. Regarding the attached waveform,

Is the Aout1 output voltage waveform correct?

Why does the Aout1 output current increase when Aout1 output voltage is low?

3. what is the advantage and disadvantage of these two Decay mode (fast and slow)?

Thanks

90 Day Evaluation License Issue

I purchased a DRV8312-C2-KIT for learning and evaluation in November 2012.

The distributor supplied the kit with links to download the outdated CCS version 4, so I upgraded CCS to version 5 (beta evaluation) and I was coerced by the licensing into obtaining a 90 day evaluation license.

This license expired in May 2013 and I am now no longer able to use the kit.

The DRV8312-C2-KIT was supplied with a Piccolo F2803x ISO Control Card  (CC2803x ISO REV1.3) that supports the XDS100, therefore it should be possible to continue to use the kit for learning and evaluation of CCS using the Bundle/Dev Kit License

How do I get someone in TI to change the licence in myRegisteredSoftware from a 90 day evaluation license which has expired, to the correct license which I believe to be the Bundle/Dev Kit option?

I have directly contacted several TI personnel and the distributor, but they have all simply told me to refer the issue to TI Technical Support. To date, TI Technical Support have not been able to resolve this issue.

Could someone please advise how to proceed.

V3P3OUT on DRV8802 EVM

Dear, Sir.

Now, I am having 2 DRV8803 EVM's.

I tried to check using the first EVM,  but it could not drive external DC motor.

I found that V3P3OUT=0V, so internal logic of DRV8802 looked no work.

Then, I got another, second one.

I can observe the same symptom as first one, no V3P3OUT again althouth no load(no DC motor but VM is applying).

I guess it can't drive the motor similar as first one.

Is there any kind of miss-operation ot bottle-neck?

Could you please give your advice to solve this issue.

Best Regards,

Hello,

My customer uses the DRV8840.

He wants to know a minimum and maximum value of LOGIC-LEVEL INPUTS internal pulldown resistance.

How about a variation of pulldown resistance due to process variation?

Of course I know the value is no test and no guarantee.
