Part Number:DRV8881

Hello team,

The customer has  a question about current sense useing Rsense.  When the current reach to Itrip, DRV8881 start to behave in decay mode.  How long does it take from reaching to Itrip until DRV8881 start decay mode. I belieave that it is too short.

Would you please advise me because the customer would like to know very much.

DRV8801: nFAULT detection & Increasing RPM

Part Number:DRV8801

Hi,

One of my customer designed a single phase BLDC operated on 12V using DRV8801 with reference from TIDA-00875

1. When i try to stop the fan blades physically using some obstacle like screw driver or pencil, the motor stops, and then starts moving again after I remove the obstacle, which is good. But there is no any indication on nFAULT pin in this case, nFAULT remains HIGH. Can this condition be detected using nFAULT?

2. Customer wanted to increase the RPM for the same blades connected to the motor. Please suggest on this.

DRV8835: Phase/Enable Mode - 3 pins

Part Number:DRV8835

My question is around the interface to the microcontroller with using DRV8835. If I pull the MODE pin high can I control the speed and direction effectively with just 3 signals from the microcontroller? AENABLE and BENABLE lines would be PWM outputs. Can A and B Phase signals be tied together to set direction with a single pin?

1. Is there any difference in the configuration of different motor register parameters?

2. What parameters are required to be configured when driving the motor?

Hello,

Our customer use the DRV8818, have a question.

Ti recommend 0.22uF capacitor for charge pump.

Is it possible to use two 0.1uF capacitor in parallel instead of 0.22uF?

The customer want to use same capacitor as 0.1uF for VM bypass capacitor.

CCS/DRV8841: DRV8841 unexpected fault

Part Number:DRV8841

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello, I found a recent forum thread with a similar topic but I want to be more precise, and possibly i would like to receive more precise response.

Recently we designed a control card with TMS320F28055 and DRV8841, and we made some simple tests driving a brushed geared DC 24V motor. The objective is power regulation with PWM to the motor, which can rotate in any direction (clockwise or counterclockwise). The motor drain , when rotates with no mechanical resistance appied to motor shaft,  is about 500 mA.

DRV8841 has two kind of current limit: one is programmable and the other is fixed at 3 Ampere, to protect the driver itself.  The motor is connected to AOUT1 , AOUT2 as in fig. 5 of your datasheet. No other reactive element (inductor or capacitor) between driver outputs and motor.

With no means of current limitation the driver goes immediately to fault state after the driver is programmed out of reset. using another device to switch motor on/off, a simple MOSFET switch, we measured at motor startup a short transient with current which actually goes above 3 Ampere for a very short period.

the internal current limitation is with a 0.22 sensing resistor with 3.3V reference, thus with a 3 Ampere full scale chopping current. We did not put any capacitor in parallel to sensing resistor. The chopping current (from datasheet) can be programmed at 0%  , 38%, 71% and 100% of full scale. I have tried bringing DRV8841 out of reset with AI1, AI2 at various settings, but the result is always driver fault.  Only putting a small 2.2 Ohm resistor in series to the motor solves the problem.

So the questions: what is wrong?  I expected that the programmable current limitation could overcome the fixed current protection, why not? How can i solve the problem?

Thanks, Vasco

DRV8332: Urgent help needed

Part Number:DRV8332

Hello TI Moter Driver Team,

I am using DRV8332 for BLDC motor and running the motor using sine PWM.

If I try to run the motor continously for some time the Low side MOSFET is getting shorted in any of the ports randomly. This was observed by checking short between OUT_x and GND_X.

I have damaged quite a few 8332 ICs and have observed the same issue on all.

please let me know if there is something that I am doing something wrong.

DRV120: PWM Frequency setting not working

Part Number:DRV120

I have a similar problem as in earlier post on this forum:  "DRV120 ROSC resistor change" (e2e.ti.com/support/applications/motor_drivers/f/38/t/529326 ), Unfortunately the discussion turns private in the end so there is no solution available...

Anyway, I'm driving a 24V 100mH solenoid that requires 170mA start current and 85mA hold current with DRV120 but I can't get it working so that it wouldn't sound very annoying. I have tried multiple different resistor values for all the peak, hold and osc settings without getting it work properly. Sometimes the PWM turns very unstable and sometimes it's a lot lower than it is supposed to be. For example with 180k Rosc the frequency should be according to datasheet over 22kHz but it actually is when measured 10,5kHz (Other settings Rhold 68k and Rpeak 68k).

Any idea what is causing this?

DRv8320: 6x PWM Mode Operation Clarification

Part Number:DRv8320

Hello!

I am seeking clarification on the 6x PWM operation. Looking at the truth table for 6x PWM (Table 3 in datasheet), it only depicts logic states without addressing PWM signals as Table 5 does for 1x PWM. Would I still send PWM to the INHX/INLX pins for variable speed operation or am I missing something?

Part Number:DRV8308

I want to drive DC motors as well as BLDC motors using DRV8308. So I thought in case of DC motor - I can apply to UHP, VHP, WHP inputs certain states in order to make it behave as a regular full bridge for DC motors.

Am I right? It would work?

DRV8305-Q1EVM: replace to DRV83055 from DRV8305N

Part Number:DRV8305-Q1EVM

Hi

WE are going to evaluate DRV83055. And we will replace from DRV8305 to DRV83055 on DRV8305-Q1EVM.

However I think we need to modify some component to operate DRV83055 on EVM instead of DRV8305N. (Espacially, the components around VREG pin.)

For expample, the VREG is supplied by external LDO on the default EVM.
To replace to DRV83055, we need to remove the R34 which is series resistor of the path from 3.3V LDO as well.

Do you think is it correct? If it so, any other modified do we need?

DRV8711: is BEMF pin optional?

Part Number:DRV8711

Hi all,

I try to run motor using the DRV8711 but have not got any success so far. When I enable the motor through SPI getting 0x04 fault error over status registers which is over-current protection error. I realised that the BEMF left open in schematics. Do you think it could be reason of getting this error? Or any idea how to debug the board for that specific problem?

Here my design parameters:

VM:24V Rsense:0.03 ohms MOSFET: BUK7M10-40E  Motor Current:0.8A/phase Motor Resistance 13 ohm/phase

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

DRV8703-Q1: Rshunt, Ichopp, Over-current

Part Number:DRV8703-Q1

Dear *,

a wan to drive a BDC with TI DRV8703-Q1.

Specification of Power Window motor is:

no load current <=3A
load rating current <=7A
locked current <=20A

1) I saw that the DRV8703-Q1 has some fault conditions like detecting the max current.

Please can you tell me how can i adjust the trip, in order to get the fault over-current condition?

2)Please can you explain the Ichop current -> should i set the Ichop to 7A or to 20A ?

3) what is the right way to size the Rshunt , if i want to measure the max load current ( i assume that the 7A is the max )

Rshunt= (Vso/Av)/Imax = (5V / 20) / 7A = 35mOhm ??

4) How does now the Rshunt influence the Ichop and the over-current ?

Best Regards.

DRV8308: Rotor Lock (RLOCK) Protection Feature in the new datasheet

$

Part Number:DRV8308

Hello everyone,

In the DRV8308 datasheet released at 13 Nov 2017, it seems that rotor lock protection feature is removed. We have some old stock that we are currently using in our application and we can see that rotor lock protection feature is active in these chips and cannot be disabled. The device part numbers seem to be same in both the new datasheet and the older one. If we order the same device, how can we be sure that it doesn't have this RLOCK feature? Is there a way to disable this feature by editing some reserved registers in the older devices? Or the architecture of the newer devices are different from the previous versions?

DRV8841: Why DRV8871 is not suitable for solenoid driving

$

Part Number:DRV8841

Dear Sir/Madam,

When looking at TI motor control brochures, I noticed that it mentioned DRV8841/8842 is suitable for solenoid driving but DRV8871 is not. Why is the reason?

my end application is for safety device, and PCB size is small. So reluctance to use DRV8841/8842  although they are good however the size is quite big. What would be the pros and cons if I use DRV8871/72 for driving solenoid?
