My customer is designing with a brushed DC motor.
According to the customer, the power rating on the motor is given as 0.3 Horsepower. This is a simple 2-wire motor and runs at a voltage of 12V. Based on that he thinks he needs 18A. On their board, they have two separate 12V voltage rails with isolation.
- How can horse power of motor be translated to continuous/peak current?
- Based on his requirement, is there an integrated part that can support this much current?
- How are DC motors protected. Is it with TVS diodes or is there any other way?
- How can isolation be integrated into the solution?
Please advise on how the DRV8301 can be used for this design.
Thank you
